When was the last time you felt really “alive”

Regularly I give You details on background information from my studio, about current works and what’s on my mind.

Do you know what I realize again and again ?

I tend to find it difficult to see the beauty of nature and its intricate design when I’m surrounded by the hectic city life.

In such phases I unconsciously switch to autopilot, lose myself in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and somehow no longer feel really alive.

Don’t you sometimes feel that way too?

I can remember the times in my old job in particular.

Materially I was secured, but inwardly I was not filled and because of that I lost myself again and again!

In such moments I just want to be myself again, let my real self out again and do what is fulfilling for me. Because the real me is inside me. All the time. I know that.

Therefore I only have to switch down and slow down… Look at myself and become aware again what actually is important for me in life, to

FEEL ALIVE!

I’ve worked on this very topic in my piece “BEING ALIVE.”

“Being Alive!” – 40 x 40 cm – Fine Art Print on Giclée Ilford Cotton Textured, framed (50 x 50 cm passepartout), limited, signed and with certificate of authenticity

It epitomizes for me how dark surrealism can help me reconnect with myself on a deeper level.

(In general, surrealism is inspired by the unreal, the absurd, the fantastic, the unconscious, as well as dreams. By breaking away from the familiar, surrealist art allows a new look at the world and life. My works are characterized by dark motifs and therefore belongs to the category of dark surrealism).

To feel alive again, I look inside myself and experience feelings that I have not been able to feel for a long time.

This is what the “Third Eye” stands for, which has always been a symbol for looking at oneself from a different perspective and gaining insight into what the true meaning of life is.

This artwork may bring out an aspect in the person who is looking at, that they have not experienced before.

Beauty in the darkness, represented in the shape of a woman.

Or supressed feelings and emotions, in all their glory, embodied in the skull.

Nowadays we are taught that we must always be happy and that we may not show any negative feelings or thoughts. But we have all been in a situation where we have felt really bad.

Self-acceptance is a key factor in self-healing and accepting one’s shadow traits as part of life.

Over time, I have learned to accept the darkness in my life as part of it.

Just as the skull and the woman in the circle make one unit.

Just as the skull and the woman in the circle make one unit.

In moments where the hustle and bustle takes over, I always remember this:

What makes me feel alive is accepting my darker sides and expressing them through images.

It always helps me to bring back this feeling and find myself again and again.

Just as the woman rises out of the waves, I too awake to life again!

Last but not least, I’ll give you a quote from May Sarton that suits this topic well:

“We must dare to be ourselves, no matter how scary or strange that self may be.”

Do you have something special in your life too that helps you find your way back to yourself from the daily grind, or do you have more questions and want more information?

Please feel free to reply to me. I am curious how you deal with it.

Maybe you are inspired by a picture that touches your innermost!

See you next time and til then…

“Love Yourself In Your Darkness!
